​We need to recognize how our own activity can affect the system as a whole, ensuring we continue to have a positive impact in order to ensure that systems can continue to function well or better in the future.

For example, purchasing something we rarely use or is only used once and thrown away. This causes waste in the form of the item as well as in the energy used to produce it.
