Kurt Stenberg , Arborist / Owner Cochrane Tree Care
I call myself a "Regenerative Arborist" and have found a passion and niche in my business educating others about their trees with a permaculture mindset. My consults I offer to the community educate them on the connection between healthy living soil, mycology, microbes etc and how this relates to their tree health. I offer tips and tricks as well as education on how to amend their poor soils and companion plant along with compost /. mulch etc. I explain why not to spray or use inorganic products for woody species. I offer pruning and removal services as well but focus a lot of my attention on re educating and saving trees that struggle here in Cochrane. I have a background in Permaculture Design through Verge as well as some Horticulture courses through Olds College and am also an instructor with Arboriculture Canada Training and Education Ltd.
I can also speak on proper planting techniques and sourcing trees for our urban environments. I have examples of larger caliper trees that came in a cage / burlap sack as well as bare root or potted trees in the backyard. We rely on lots of mulch to maintain moisture and develop a fungal dominant soil perfect for trees. I also fertigate with a natural aquarium I have (and am happy to show as well). Our current focus is on trees and shrubs at the moment but will include more food in the future. Everything you see has been built or grown within the last year so we are very immature. My greatest yields are obviously mulch and wood.
Im excited to have everyone come and see our place. I think its a great example of what can be done in a year. Its also a great example of balancing some permaculture / regenerative techniques with a spouse who is not into permaculture. Im also looking forward to putting a spin on what I assume a usual permaculture property would look like and discuss trees and answer as many questions as possible.
