Gisele Hardock, Master Beekeeper
I am a Master beekeeper, market gardener and educator. I give presentations to kids and adults on bees emphasizing Alberta's native bees. I keep bees on my property and at a local CSA farm for pollination using only organic pest controls. 2 greenhouses on the property are full of tomatoes and peppers that I grow for a local CSA. I found that my property was too windy to grow a traditional garden, so I built the greenhouses which have been amazing. Both greenhouses have hugelculture-ish raised beds. In one I am trying out ollas for watering and the other has drip watering on a timer. I amend with natural fertilizers - something different each year - coffee husks, worm castings, manure, comfrey tea. I also have massive amounts of comfrey planted around the place and can speak on comfrey tea (for plants) and comfrey salves (and people could dig up some comfrey to take home if they want.). The outside gardens are mostly low maintenance perennials or self-seeding annuals which provide bee forage. I interplant for a polycluture effect.
I also work at a forest school - a 100% outdoors preschool.
