Basil
If you are here, chances are you have purchased a basil plant from us. So here is the information you will need to make the most of this delicious herb!
This year we are selling the Jolina variety of Basil:
Basil originates in the Mediterranean, so it is unlikely to come back year after year in a cold-temperate climate. However, growing this spicy herb in containers is a great alternative in order to prolong the life-span as you may take it indoors in the winter if you have a free window sill! Jolina Basil is a cross between Thai and Italian Basil.
Taste: Slightly spicy and a little sweet. Great in salads or in pastas and Thai dishes.

Plants
Plants can be spaced relatively close together--even just a few inches apart. The more space you provide, however, the more chance you have of developing a fuller plant.
Plant in full sun and in well-draining soil.
In order to encourage more leafy foliage, pinch off 2-4 leaves from the tops regularly. Pinch off just above the preceding sets of leaves.
Water thoroughly until moist, but do not over-water. Allow the surface of the soil to dry in between waterings.
Enjoy in salads, in a Thai stir-fry, in pastas dishes or raw on a sandwich!
