Bankview Terrace
Said to be Calgary's first Commercial residential condo complex to incorporate the principles of permaculture in its landscape, Bankview Terrace combines aesthetics with functionality throughout its city-block-long landscape. Added to the tour in 2019, the site is complete with food forests hosting a large variety of perennial fruit-bearing shrubs and trees such as sour cherries, apples, currants, aronia berries, seabuckthorn and blueberries, just to name a few. Even though the site contains ample green space for recreation, it also applies methods such as "chop and drop" throughout the gardens in order to build healthy, organic soil.
As for the interior of this site, Management has begun to transform units in the building to conform to a more building biology conscious design. The test unit now has filtered air and water, no or minimally off gassing materials used in construction. Kitchen benches are solid wood with natural tung oil finish, natural fibers, wood and stone where possible, no carpets, flooring is of the most biocompatible "Greenguard Gold Gertified" coverings (future units may have wood, tile or polished concrete instead). No VOC paints. Organic and natural cleaning agents are used by on site staff, no chemical poisons or fertilizers, etc. Bedroom walls, ceilings and floors are coated in EMF absorptive paints to reduce signals entirely or by several orders of magnitude resulting in a low radiation and low chemical environment.
